In honor of the most iconic Frankenstein’s Monster in all of film, here is a Boris Karloff Cocktail on Frankenstein Day. There have been many since his first appearance as the Monster in the 1931 film “Frankenstein” but that face is the one we remember most. The 1931 film was not, however, the first appearance of Dr. Frankenstein and his Monster from the book by Mary Shelly put to film.
The first was a short, 14 minute Kenetogram from Edison Studios. After the film was thought to be lost, it was discovered and transferred to 35mm in 1970, then remastered again in 2010 to be added to the Pubic Domain.
The second adaptation of Shelly’s novel was a film from 1975 called Life Without Soul that is still lost as far as I know. Also lost was the 1920 Italian horror adaptation called The Monster of Frankenstein.
