Sunset Cocktail: Green Jenkin Revisited
3/4 oz. Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select Rye
3/4 oz. Green Chartreuse
3/4 oz. Butterfly Boston Absinthe
1 bsp Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
2 dashes Owl and Whale Cranberry Bitters
Stir everything with ice and strain into a chilled Old Fashioned Glass.
I’m hoping to go back through all of my Original, Blackened, and Mythos Absinthe Cocktails to try and get them right. I started with what I figure is my signature drink, Green Jenkin, from last year to see how I could improve it. After going through that old post I also realize that I stated then that I wasn’t going to add it to the Mythos Absinthe Cocktail list even though I did.
When I first came up with this I wanted to stay true to how I made the Vieux Carre by building all of the ingredients in the glass and adding ice. For this version I decided to stir in a mixing glass as I felt that it really needed a proper dilution as these ingredients are a lot stronger and more forward than those in a standard Vieux Carre. I did try this with an even stronger Rye like Pikesville but I felt that, while not a meek Rye, the Woodford Reserve played better with the rest of the herbals. I’m also trying a different bitter which I think may work better than the Ginger lemon from the first try.
