Miskatonic University Antarctic Expedition Martini on National Gin Day
2 1/4 oz London No.1 Gin
3/4 oz Green Chartreuse
2 dashes Hella Bitters Orange
rinse Butterfly Absinthe
Stir first 3 ingredients with ice and strain into a very chilled, Absinthe washed Cocktail Glass. Garnish with an amorphous Shoggoth peel and run screaming into the snowy wilderness.
Seems like every other drinking holiday is a Gin Day though I’m not complaining. This year we had two Gin and Tonic Days (April 9th and October 19th), and we get 2 Gin Days, World Gin Day on June 10th and National Gin Day today. Since we just had that fairly recent Gin and Tonic Day I thought I’d revisit the Martini variation in my Mythos Absinthe Cocktails.
I feel like this would be the perfect celebratory drink a distinguished explorer would make on arrival at the expedition site. If anyone is interested in Miskatonic University Antarctic Expedition swag created by Propnomicon, look here at the official Propnomicon Zazzle site (and don’t be fooled by other sites that have stolen his artwork). In earlier notes on this drink I hated the odd 2 1/4 oz measure until I realized that I do have jiggers that are 1 1/2 oz on one side and 3/4 oz on the other, making it an easy measure to make. In this version I did change up the Gin to the blue hued London No. 1 in the hopes of getting a little more of an Aqua color to further differentiate it from the Alaska (Emerald) Martini that it’s based on. Now all I need to know if I need to use the shorter, easier name like “The Shuggoth Martini” or to stick with the ever so exasperating “Miskatonic University Antarctic Expedition Martini”. Thoughts?
