Pandemic Dram: Garden Fizz with Reverse Dry Shake
1 1/2 oz Saxtons River Distillery’s Snowdrop American Dry Gin
1/2 oz Aperol
1 1/2 oz Eddy Derby Cocktail Mix*
4 leaves Mint (+bunch as garnish)
3 dashes Woodford reserve Aromatic Bitters
1 Egg White
1 spritz Rosewater (as garnish)
Shake first 5 ingredients with ice and strain out ice. Add the Egg White and dry shake until frothy. Strain into a Fizz glass and garnish with a spritz of Rose Water and a Mint leaf bunch.
*or use 1/2 oz Lime Juice, 1/2 oz Grapefruit Juice, and 1/2 oz Honey Syrup
This week’s haul from The Eddy landed me with a Mint Julep Kit, a Strawberry Basil mix, and this Derby Mix. I built this drink on the assumption that the Derby mix was something along the line of Grapefruit juice and Honey syrup as you would commonly use in a Brown Derby. Instead of just adding some Bourbon to the mix, I wanted to have a little more fun.
I was trying to figure out what to do with the Strawberry Basil mix and since I already had the Gin gin out already, I dove into my tomes of alchemy. I found this Garden Fizz which also gave me a chance to use some of that pile of Mint leaves they gave me. The closest thing I could find to post here is on Kindred Cocktails and the page that it refers to is tragically down. Further searches for Garden Fizzes prove equally tragic. I did come across this Strawberry Fizz that would be nice with that Strawberry Basil mix, perhaps, though I feel I’d really need some fresh strawberries and a Basil leaf to make that work well.
